All the great events that make Central Utah the unforgettable flying venue that it is can’t happen without the amazing volunteers that help out every year. Each event has different roles that need to be filled. If you are interested, we would love to have you come and be a part of the team!!
Red Rocks Wide Open
Dates: Sept 6-13
Volunteering for the Red Rocks Wide Open, which is one of two of the US’s National race to goal events is fantastic way to be part of the community you love and is a LOT of fun! Whether you are chasing pilots around the incredible landscape while on retrieve, helping pilots launch their gliders, or any other task, you’ll make life-long friends and learn a ton from some of the best pilots in the world.
The organization will provide chalk talks on all kinds of cross-country subjects on weather days as well as take the competitors to nearby National Parks and other really fun outings (hot springs, mountain bike shuttles, river runs, etc.). They also provide three meals a day, free beautiful camping on the Sevier River with hot showers and great facilities, and a free XC clinic with a few of the best pilots in the US September 5th and 14th.
Volunteer positions needed:
- Retrieve Driver (must have a Garmin InReach, be 25 or older, have a valid drivers license, and understand using offline maps, basic tech). Drivers are paid on task days.
- Retrieve Coordinator (solid computer skills, thorough understanding of InReach, good at multitasking)

Red Rocks Fly In
Dates: Sept 22-27
It takes a great team to pull off the largest fly in the country. We hope you join us to make that happen! We try to make sure volunteers are able to fly each day that weather allows by splitting into morning and evening shifts doing tasks such as fluffing wings on launch. Of course, volunteers are given free entry into the event, free rides to launch in the club truck, and get to partake in the activities outside of the flying. Come be a part of the magic that Central Utah is known for! Reach out to drleusden@gmail.com for volunteer opportunities.
